Jets V Wigan - away

Chester Wheelchair Jets improved their record to 5-3 with their fifth straight win. The team were away to Wigan and ran out 64-22 winners. However they will have to improve to really challenge for second spot in the league.

Despite the score line Jets team defence and offensive finishing were poor and on top form they should have run out winners by a lot more. With points difference likely to decide league places this may prove a costly performance. Equally with four games to go it could and should prove the spark for everyone to put the hard work in during training and hone the weak points to take the Jets where they want to be come the end of the season.

The Jets pressed all game producing a lot of steals and 8 second calls for Wigan failing to get the ball over the halfway line in time. But, the final execution proved to be lacking, with Chester creating a lot of good shots from four foot and in but only shooting 30% from the field. Defensively a lack of communication across the press allowed Wigan to break out too often and score easy opportunities.

Jets did show real class in bursts, the goal now is to play this way for the full 40 minutes. They have shown that they can raise their game for the stronger opponents; a real killer instinct now needs to be developed to take them to the next level. They have a line up that many teams find hard to match up against with three quality forwards playing much of the game. This strength needs to be utilised better. Everyone will learn from this game and improve.

Team - Anna Jackson (Captain),  Caroline Ballard,  Daniel Spencer,  Billy Flanagan,  Andrew Hickey,  Stuart McNeill
Scorers-  Anna Jackson 30 points, Caroline Ballard 16 points, Billy Flanagan 10 points, Andrew Hickey 8 points
