Ian Richards

I have over 20 year coaching and tutoring experience in the sport of basketball. This includes 3 years as the full time Nottinghamshire Youth Basketball Development Officer employed through the Notts Basketball Association.
 
Working with both Boys and Girls through to senior Men and Women involved in the running game. I have also worked with individuals in the GB Wheel Chair Team on the road to winning Bronze Medal in the Athens Paralympics.

More recently, I have worked with the Mansfield Maulers Wheel Chair Basketball Club developing both the team & individuals developing the Club and Mentoring their Coach Andy Tyler.

In the past, was the first coach to win a national title for Notts Nova winning the inaugural U13 Passerell competition. I have also been the head coach of U12, U13 NBL boys & girl’s teams and Senior Women’s NBL teams with the Mansfield Giants as NBL Div 2 runners up in 08/09. I 2003/04 I was involved as Assistant Coach with the Sheffield Arrows Men’s Div 1 NBL team as League winner & National Cup runner up in 2005 and National Trophy winners in 2005 and Div 1 NBL Play off winners 2004/2005 season. I also Head Coached Mansfield Express to Div 3 runners up in 1999/2000

 I am also Head Coach of the U18 Junior Women’s team at Bilborough College Nottingham.

At present, I am the Director of Coaching for the Mansfield Giants Basketball Club supporting/mentoring all coaches in the club, l coach the current U13 NBL team and U14 Local League team on a voluntary basis.

I continue to work and develop the sport of Basketball as a Tutor for England Basketball by delivering CSLA Bolt-on courses, Ukcc Level 1 and UKcc Level 2 Basketball Coach Awards and Level 1 Referee Awards as well as being a Tutor for Great Britain Wheel Chair Basketball Association where I deliver Grade 1 and Grade 2 Coach Awards, Leaders Awards and the new Young Officials Award to candidates through Schools, Clubs, Colleges, Universities and School Sport Partnerships. I am also one of the Facilitators involved delivering CAAD’s for the GBWBA throughout the Country.

My full time profession is as a Basketball Coach/Tutor and I run a small but successful Sports Coaching business that delivers to local schools in and around Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire. This also lends its self to National Coach delivery opportunities which includes equipment sales.
